MIRA MESA BRANCH LIBRARY Announcement – November 1st, 2020

Under the guidance of the CA Department of Public Health and San Diego County’s Public Health Officer, the San Diego Public Library will be closed until further notice. Programs and events at the library are cancelled until further notice, although virtual events, such as meetings of the Mira Mesa Library’s monthly book group, the Banned Book Club, are taking place and announcements posted on the Mira Mesa Library Facebook page. Mira Mesa Library staff can answer phone calls at 858-538-8165 Monday to Friday, from 9:30am to 5:30pm. Online library services remain available to the public at http://www.sandiego.gov/eLibrary. Summer Reading Program has finished up. If you have logged 10 books or 10 hours of reading, you can come pick up your prize bag Monday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Participants will receive a coupon for the free book prize. Hold on to the coupon to choose a book when we reopen. Prize bags will be available for pick up through September 30th, 2020.


Contactless Pickup Service
Contactless Outdoor Pickup Service is available Monday through Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Mira Mesa Library as well as 17 other branch locations. Patrons may place holds online at http://www.sandiegolibrary.org  to pick up at designated outdoor Pickup Service locations. Please refer to the hold pick up notice email for the deadline to pick up your items. After that date, your item(s) will be placed back on the shelves. Please visit http://www.sandiego.gov/pickupservice for a list of Pickup Service locations as well as a Step- by-Step guide. We ask patrons who use this service to please wear facial covering and maintain 6 feet of social distance from others. Refrain from using service if you have a cough or fever, and avoid engaging in unnecessary physical contact with visitors and staff.

Library Closure: All city libraries are closed on Wednesday, November 11th for Veterans Day and Thursday, November 26th for Thanksgiving.

In addition to contactless pickup service, the Mira Mesa Branch Library is offering in-person services Monday through Saturday, 9:30 AM – 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM – 5:30 PM.

Limited Services include:

  • Computer Usage (up to one hour)
  • Printing
  • Holds Pickup
  • Light Reference and Reader’s Advisory
  • Getting/Renewing a Library Card

We are committed to a safe reopening for limited services and ask that you please follow our guidelines:

  • Temperature will be screened prior to entering.
  • Wear face covering over mouth and nose at all times.
  • Practice safe social distancing and stay 6 feet apart from library patrons and staff.
  • Follow posted directional signage.
  • No food or drink allowed.
  • No browsing allowed.
  • Please make your visit quick and efficient.

In-N-Out Cover to Cover Club

The In-N-Out Cover to Cover reading program is back and has gone virtual! The program starts on Saturday, October 3rd and ends on Saturday, November 14th for children ages 4-12. Children will receive an award of one free hamburger or cheeseburger for every five books read, up to three awards! You can register for the In-N-Out Cover to Cover program at www.sandiego.gov/covertocover.

Mail Ballot Drop Off 

Your signed, sealed and dated voted mail ballot envelope can be dropped off during these hours:

  • Monday through Saturday 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. until Monday, November 2nd.
  • On Election Day, Tuesday November 3rd, hours for dropping off voted mail ballots will be 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Banned Book Club Meeting on Tuesday, November 24th at 6:30 p.m. via ZOOM Banned Book Club will discuss A Wrinkle in Time, by Madeleine L’Engle, a classic children’s science fiction book, intriguing story for adults, too. It has been challenged for various reasons over the years since it was published in 1962. The Mira Mesa Library is holding several copies at the front desk. If you would enjoy joining in the discussion, or simply sitting in and listening, please email book group facilitator Pam Stevens, pstevens@san.rr.com, by Monday, November 23 at 6 p.m. for the meeting ID.
