First Vice President – Programs
The Mira Mesa Town Council meeting on Monday, November 2, 2020, 7pm via Zoom (and Facebook Live), will feature presentations by a couple of Mira Mesa groups who are doing good things for individuals and the community.
The Mira Mesa Women’s Club (www.miramesawomensclub.org) has been an active service club in Mira Mesa ever since the community was young in the early 1970s. The club, whose members are of all ages, is a member group of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, in the San Diego District of GFWC. At the November 2 MMTC meeting Martha Pritchard, who is now San Diego District president, and Marcia Montoya, current Mira Mesa Womens Club president, will speak about the Mira Mesa Womens Club and members’ upcoming fall and winter projects.
Mira Mesa High School’s Foods and Nutrition Club (the “FAN” Club) is now the FCCLA FAN Club, Family Career and Community Leaders Foods and Nutrition Club. According to the group’s faculty advisor, Jennifer Kvalvik, students in the club are now working on the idea of putting together a Jobs and Resources Fair, something which could take place in February 2021. Sharlene Lorenzo, the group’s president, will make the presentation.
San Diego State Assembly District 77 candidates, June Cutter and Assemblyman Brian Maienschein, have both been invited to speak briefly.
Mira Mesa Town Council Board members are elected in November. Currently half the MMTC Board is elected in odd-numbered years and half in even-numbered years, serving 2-year terms. This year the positions which are up for election/re-election are: First Vice-president – Program Chair; Treasurer; Newsletter Editor; Board Member at Large #1; and Board Member at Large #2. MMTC members in good standing (who have paid their current dues) will be sent a ballot via email the weekend of October 31 – November 1 to vote and return by the start of the November 2 MMTC meeting. For details, see the “MMTC Board Elections” article.
