MMHS Sapphire Sound Seniors Perform in “Rose Parade’s New Year Celebration” TV Special Jan. 1, 2021

By Pam Stevens

Mira Mesa High School Sapphire Sound Marching Band and Color Guard seniors are featured among the
high school and college students from around the country whose virtual performance of “Everything’s
Coming Up Roses” will appear in the 2-hour television special, “Rose Parade’s New Year Celebration
presented by Honda,” broadcast from 8am to 10am PST, on ABC, Hallmark Channel, KTLA, NBC, and
RFD-TV. Watch for them!

According to the Tournament of Roses Committee, Kermit the Frog will be the “celebrity guest
conductor” for the students’ virtual performance.

MMHS Sapphire Sound director Jeanne Christensen and Sapphire Sound students and parents are now
busily preparing to take part in the 2022 Rose Parade. The Tournament of Roses Committee organized
the virtual performance to showcase this year’s graduating seniors from the participating bands who
won’t have the opportunity to perform then.

“A large portion of our seniors participated in the ‘Salute to Seniors’ segment…Let’s celebrate our
seniors and congratulate them for working hard through this pandemic…The countdown [to the 2022
Parade] is happening! We are just ONE YEAR AWAY. We have a lot of work to do and fundraising ahead
of us, but we will work together and always support one another. We will represent our school, district,
and our families with the universal language that connects all of us…music,” said Jeanne Christensen,
aka “Mrs. C,” in her “Band Director’s Corner” of the Dec. 20,2020 – Jan. 1, 2021 Weekly Update and
Announcements on the Mira Mesa High School Band and Color Guard website.
