Mira Mesa has lost a well-loved community leader. Ted Brengel, past president of the Mira Mesa Town Council, past chair of the Mira Mesa Community Planning Group, and active member of the Mira Mesa Recreation Council, among other volunteer activities, passed away October 22, 2021. He was 74. Ted and his wife, Helen, have lived in Mira Mesa since 1991, after he retired from the Navy.
Ted Brengel was a longtime volunteer with the Sandburg Elementary School “traffic circle,” providing safety for students going to and from school. Ted was a fabulous photographer. During and after his career as a project manager for Northrop Grumman from 1994 to 2009, Ted developed his own professional photography business but also volunteered his services taking pictures at community events, from school jog-a-thons and youth sports to the Mira Mesa Street Fair.
Friends and fellow community volunteers remember Ted as an all-around good guy and friend of all Mira Mesa, with a winning smile and a willingness to volunteer on whatever was needed to help. In June 2009 Ted was honored by the Mira Mesa Town Council as the 2008 Mira Mesa Volunteer of the Year, not just for his efforts that year but for all his volunteering over the years, doing things that make Mira Mesa a better place to live. Ted will be missed, but long remembered!
